MOCK PARLIAMENT BY CLASS VIII

Class VIII students participated in a Mock Parliament, an exercise meant to create awareness among them about the functioning of the top legislative body in the country. This event was led by M. Vijeth, Ch. Jessy and B. Deekshitha competently on 6 July 2024. The venue was decorated with boards displaying salient information to mark the occasion. The event started with a group discussion and video presentation. The students participated in the various aspects of the parliament such as Question Hour, and Breach of privilege motion and divisions.
Then the students enacted the role of the ruling as well as the opposition party MP’s besides that of the ministers and the Honourable Speaker. On the left of the rostrum were the seats for the opposition and on the right the seats for the ruling party. The Speaker's chair was placed on an elevated rostrum.
The Mock Parliament commenced with the arrival of the Hon. Speaker. The participating students simulated the Question Hour, while others observed the proceedings. The Ministers of Human Resource Development, Travel and Tourism, Railways and Health gave their statements and responded to the questions raised by other members of the House. The strong opposition discussed women reservation bill for women empowerment. They expressed their anguish over the percentage issue and demanded for clarification. The Prime Minister clearly elucidated the process, its pros and cons and answered the opposition. The opposition posed a number of questions over various other contemporary issues and kept the ministers on their toes. The Mock Parliament brought awareness about the parliamentary proceedings in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
The parents complimented the sincere efforts of the school in organizing such useful programmes for enhancing the communication and interpersonal skills of the students, which would shape their holistic personality.
The Academic Director, Ms. Sruti Sainathuni opined that students had a wonderful opportunity to hone their public speaking, critical thinking, and leadership skills. The Honorary Correspondent, Mr. G.V. Bhaskar and the Sr. School Principal, Mr. M. Mahesh witnessed the event and complimented the participants for executing the show splendidly.
